Maryland Public Television Receives ICI Education Foundation Grant

Washington, DC, June 8, 2012 - The Investment Company Institute Education Foundation (ICIEF) announced today that Maryland Public Television (MPT) is receiving a $25,000 grant that will underwrite a series of online, broadcast-quality investor education videos for MPT’s existing financial education initiative, Get in Charge,  http://www.mptgetincharge.com/.

Each 2–3 minute investor education video will be hosted by MPT’s business correspondent Karen Gibbs; will align with Maryland State Education Department financial literacy standards; will feature graphics, animation, and Q&A with experts; and will be promoted in print, on air, in e-newsletters and social media, and on the web.

“We are pleased to support the expansion of MPT’s financial education initiative to include investor education,” said ICI President and CEO Paul Schott Stevens. “Providing investment education to all Americans at every level, from elementary school through retirement, is a responsibility shared by media, educators, employers, and national and local governments, as well as financial service firms.”

ICIEF’s grant program is designed to advance investment education within the greater metropolitan Washington, DC area. “Get in Charge” encourages everyone to “get their financial lives on track through education, awareness, personal responsibility, and informed action.”

“Maryland Public Television had its roots in education and that’s been a critical part of our mission for more than 40 years,” said MPT President and CEO Larry D. Unger. “That’s why we’re delighted to be able to use this generous grant from the ICI Education Foundation to produce online videos that enhance citizens’ financial literacy. We’re eager to educate investors and others so they come to know the practices and pitfalls of putting their money to work through investing.”

MPT is the tenth ICIEF grantee since the program launched in 2009. For more information about ICIEF, other grantees, and the investor education grant program, including eligibility requirements, please see www.icief.org.
